Under the existing agreement, the owner of Student Experience was due to return the vacant site to the City of Amsterdam on 1 April 2027. The area will be used for work sites for the development of the new Ravel residential district. At the owner’s request, we searched for and found an alternative temporary location for the work sites. As a result, the new agreement allows the owner until 28 February 2028 to dismantle and (partially) relocate the modular building.

Work sites and schedule

The work sites are now planned on the adjacent plot. This means the student housing will remain available for one additional academic year, until 1 July 2027. The owner will begin dismantling the building no later than that date. This enables us to prepare the site from the first quarter of 2028 for the construction of social housing on plot J (see image below) – the first of two new residential buildings planned for this location around 2033. Due to these developments, and the planned expansion of the adjacent De Boelegracht, a longer extension of the land lease agreement is not possible.

Student Experience

In the development plans for the new residential district, the east side of the area included a large section of undeveloped land, available from 2024 until early 2027. Zuidas launched a competitive tender for the temporary use of this land. In 2015, the Student Experience Ravel Residence building was developed between the AFC sports fields and the De Boelegracht. Since then, thousands of students have found a home in one of the 800 temporary student apartments.

Ravel residential district
The new Ravel residential district will be a mixed, green and car-free area providing space for approximately 1,350 homes, primarily for families. Construction of the first homes began in summer 2025 with 75 social rental homes in building Ravelly. At the end of 2025, Kindercampus Zuidas opened its doors. Construction of 148 affordable rental homes in The Harmony is expected to start in mid-2026. The district is scheduled for completion around 2035.
