The Strawinskylaan bicycle park, located below the former Vijfhoek building, will be the third underground bicycle park in Zuidas, with the others located beneath Gustav Mahlerplein (3,000 spaces) and Zuidplein (2,500 spaces). The cyclists’ entrance consists of a fully glass entrance hall in which two moving walkways convey the cyclists from street level to the bicycle park and vice versa. Once cyclists have parked their bicycle, they leave the bicycle park via a pedestrian entrance under the viaduct on Strawinskylaan. The bicycle park has a spacious layout, with a wide central corridor – as wide as Kalverstraat in Amsterdam – providing access to the bicycle parking facilities. Tree-shaped columns and indirectly illuminated ceiling islands provide a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere and the high levels of natural light help give the bicycle park the look and feel of a transparent pavilion.
Upon completion of the project, the above-ground area will be redesigned and the greenery will return.
Construction schedule for the Strawinskylaan bicycle park

Parties involved
The design was created by wUrck and the work is being conducted by Van Boekel Zeeland BV. The client is Amsterdam Zuidas.

Sustainability
Many Amsterdam residents still come to Zuidas by car, which in our view creates unnecessary traffic and adds to congestion both on the roads and in the car parks. As a result, we are investing substantially to make bicycles a more attractive alternative to cars. At the bicycle parks, including the one under Strawinskylaan, there is also a plentiful supply of public transport bikes that public transport users can use for the final leg of their journeys.
The social objective of Van Boekel Bouw & Infra – the contractor responsible for construction of the bicycle park – is to make the living environment more sustainable. The firm has reached the highest level of the CO2 performance ladder.

Additional information
- 4,200m² of underground area
- Space for 3,750 bicycles
