Plots K and L2 (see map) will ultimately be developed as housing, offices and amenities. According to the most recent schedule, the development of plot K (offices and amenities) will not start until 2027 at the earliest. This is dependent on the capacity of the electricity grid. After that, housing and amenities will be built on plot L2. In order to come up with temporary landscaping for the undeveloped area, in 2023 we invited local residents to tell us what they would like to see here. The results revealed that the preferred options primarily favoured greenery, space for leisure, sport and play.
Two design proposals
Armed with these ideas, the designer Alessandro Solci came up with two designs. Both proposals include broadly the same ingredients, but their location varies here and there. ‘The idea is to have a green meeting place where everyone is welcome’, explains Solci. ‘We intend to achieve this by planting up the undeveloped field with flower meadows and shrubs and installing seating and picnic tables in different places. This will make it a great place for the neighbourhood to enjoy.’ Solci’s design also features a boules court, a table tennis table, a fitness trail, a panna football pitch and playground and exercise equipment for young and old.
Feedback from information evening
Around 50 residents saw the designs and the response was generally enthusiastic. Most people preferred design proposal 1, where the sports and play facilities are located slightly further away from the housing. There were also calls for the edges of the area to be made greener. Residents also wanted to see plenty of refuse containers and effective management in order to prevent the area becoming untidy.
Next steps
Solci is now making minor adjustments to the design, based on the responses, some of which also related to the location of different features. You can read an overview of the responses (in Dutch) here. The definitive design will be posted on the website at a later stage and we will also show how we incorporated residents’ comments in the design. We will then start work landscaping the area.
