This weekend, we closed the A10 Zuid in the direction of Schiphol/Rotterdam in order to insert sheet piling in various places right next to the A10. We already did the same in the weekend of 20-23 September on the south side of the orbital ring road, and this weekend it was time for the north side. In order to be able to access the A10 embankment, we removed the existing sound barriers between Amstelveenseweg and the Schinkel bridges and replaced them with temporary noise protection.

Immediate repair
Following previous subsidence, the TriAX construction consortium (Besix, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans) took additional precautionary measures this time, which enabled us to spot some minor subsidence at an early stage and repair it immediately. In the end, it proved possible to reopen the A10 Zuid at 03.00 on Monday morning, two hours earlier than scheduled.
Delays
As predicted, the closure of the A10 Zuid in the direction of Schiphol/Rotterdam resulted in increased journey times on the A9 and A10 Noord of up to an hour. Unfortunately, this weekend saw a relatively large number of accidents and breakdowns. The A9 was also completely closed in the opposite direction at the same time. As a result, the roads around Amstelveenseweg and Zeilbrug/Zeilstraat in the direction of Hoofddorpplein and the Stadionbuurt district quickly became congested. This caused delays that were sometimes as long as an hour, especially for drivers taking a longer route through the city. Public transport was affected by delays of up to 30 minutes.
Widening of A10 Zuid
The works are necessary in order to enable the widening of the A10 Zuid. We are creating additional carriageways, each with two extra lanes, intended for local traffic. From the De Nieuwe Meer junction, extra viaducts are needed over Amstelveenseweg and Piet Kranenbergpad, and extra bridges over the River Schinkel. We are currently making preparations for the construction of these bridges and viaducts.
