Beethoven

Beethoven is home to Beatrixpark, making it probably the greenest neighbourhood in Zuidas. It is an unusual neighbourhood that combines multiple functions: on the east side of Beethovenstraat, for example, there are the offices of AkzoNobel and Stibbe and a secondary school (St. Nicolaaslyceum). On the west edge of the park, we will be building housing in the years ahead, and there is a municipal monument in the park itself.

The Beethoven neighbourhood has a rich history. Beatrixpark was established in 1938 and the first buildings of the St. Nicolaaslyceum opened in the 1960s. Although the original buildings no longer exist, the school moved into a new building several metres away from the original one in 2012. In Beatrixpark, part of the St. Nicolaaslyceum also includes the former monastery known as Kapel & Convict, which now has listed monument status.

Working, learning, living

In addition to employment and education, there will also be space for housing in Beethoven in the years ahead. Next to the A10 Zuid, 213 apartments are being developed in the two Nobu Residences Park Meadows residential towers. So-called plot 2 will also be used for housing in the future. The Convict building has been completely renovated and is currently being used to house Ukrainian refugees. The Kapel (or chapel) that belongs to it will be given a new use as a cultural or social amenity.
