In 2025, we made a fresh start together with you on the redesign of De Boelelaan Midden. The results of our discussions and the online participation process can be found here (in Dutch). Meanwhile, your ideas have led to an approved preliminary design for the carriageway and three draft designs for the service road and green areas. From Monday, 16 March to Tuesday, 14 April 2026 we are organising several (online) consultation hours, coffee moments and joint explorations to review the updated designs. What will we discuss with you?
Design of the carriageway
Last year, we showed you the concept of the preliminary design for the carriageway. Your ideas, together with expert advice, have resulted in a fully developed design: an approved preliminary design. The most notable change is the implementation of one pedestrian crossing per crossing point across De Boelelaan instead of two. This is clearer and safer, because motor traffic only needs to slow down once and the (cycle) crossing can remain unobstructed. During the (online) discussions and meetings in March and April, we will be happy to answer all your questions about this approved preliminary design.
Draft designs for the service road and green areas
For the service road and the green areas along De Boelelaan Midden, you asked to see several options developed. A draft design has therefore been prepared in three different variants. In variant 1 (De Wilde Boele) greenery takes centre stage, in variant 2 (De Fitte Boele) the focus is on different functions such as sports equipment, and in variant 3 (De Stoere Boele) the emphasis is mainly on water. During the discussions and meetings in March and April, we would like to hear which variant you prefer and why.
Take part online
You can again share your views and ask questions online about the different designs. Use the following link, available from 16 March to 14 April 2026: De Boelelaan Midden: participate
Variant 1: De Wilde Boele (focus on greenery)
Variant 2: De Fitte Boele (focus on functionality)
Variant 3: De Stoere Boele (focus on water)

Women’s safety and accessibility
Local residents previously also raised questions about women’s safety and the accessibility of public space. We would like to discuss these themes with you during two so‑called explorations in the public space. Both events start with a snack and something to drink, after which we will explore the area together with one of the two themes in mind. No advance registration is required.
Exploration: women’s safety
- Tuesday, 24 March 2026 from 17.30 to 21.00 (the exploration starts at 19.00) at Service Apartmenten Zuidwende (De Boelelaan 201–205).
For this exploration we are specifically focusing on women and everyone who identifies as a woman, so that they can share their experiences as safely as possible. However, people who do not belong to this group may also experience situations or feelings of unsafety. We therefore invite everyone to share their concerns or experiences by email via boelelaan.za@amsterdam.nl.
Exploration: accessibility
- Tuesday, 7 April 2026 from 11.30 to 15.00 (the exploration starts at 13.00) at Service Apartmenten Zuidwende (De Boelelaan 201–205).
Unable to participate in the explorations in person? Then join one of our online consultation hours or email your questions and comments to: boelelaan.za@amsterdam.nl
