Since 2025, Beethovenstraat and Maurice Ravellaan have been the focus of a range of construction activities. For example, together with utility companies, we have renewed and relocated almost the entire underground network of cables and pipes to make way for the new Ravel residential neighbourhood. Zuidasdok is now starting preparations for the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station and the construction of the A10 tunnel. This includes utility works and the installation of a culvert (more on that later). To carry out these works, we need to close the underpass beneath the road and railway viaducts in Beethovenstraat for four weeks. To minimise disruption, we have scheduled the closure from Monday, 20 July until Monday, 17 August, during the relatively quiet summer holiday period.

Shortly beforehand, we will also begin repairing the carriageway further along Beethovenstraat. We will modify the traffic signals and redesign the Beethovenstraat/Ravellaan junction, including a safer pedestrian and bicycle crossing across Beethovenstraat. Below is an overview of the works and the expected disruption.

Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July

During this weekend, we will be working on the Beethovenstraat/Ravellaan junction, including new pedestrian refuge islands and a bicycle crossing. For the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station, we will establish a construction site at Spoorslag (the road between the A10 and AFC football club). In preparation for the A10 tunnel, we will also remove underground cables and pipes beneath the viaducts in Beethovenstraat.

  • Motor traffic
The eastern carriageway of Beethovenstraat (towards the city centre) will be closed. Traffic will be diverted via De Boelelaan and Parnassusweg.
  • Cyclists and pedestrians
The eastern side of Beethovenstraat will be closed. Cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted to the opposite side of Beethovenstraat. Spoorslag alongside AFC football club will be open to pedestrians only.

Monday 20 July until Monday 17 August

From Monday, 20 July at 05.00 until Monday, 17 August at 01.00, the underpass beneath the Beethovenstraat viaducts will be closed to motor traffic in both directions for four weeks. During this period, Zuidasdok will install a culvert beneath Beethovenstraat. This will provide a future connection between the waterways on either side of Beethovenstraat.

Construction sites will also be established beneath the viaducts and at Spoorslag for the removal of underground cables and pipes in preparation for the construction of the A10 tunnel. During the first week of this period, we will also modify the traffic signals at the Beethovenstraat/De Boelelaan and Beethovenstraat/Ravellaan junctions.

  • Motor traffic
Beethovenstraat will be completely closed to motor traffic at The Valley. The closure applies to the section of Beethovenstraat between Christian Neefestraat, north of the A10, and The Valley, south of the A10. Traffic will be diverted via De Boelelaan and Parnassusweg.
  • Bus services
Bus services will be diverted via Strawinskylaan and Parnassusweg.
  • Cyclists and pedestrians
Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to pass via either the western or the eastern side of Beethovenstraat. Until Sunday, 26 July, Spoorslag, alongside AFC football club, will remain open to pedestrians only. After that, Maurice Ravellaan, on the opposite side of the football club, will reopen to all traffic.

Gustav Mahlerlaan will remain accessible throughout this period. The traffic signals at both the Beethovenstraat/De Boelelaan and Beethovenstraat/Gustav Mahlerlaan junctions will be switched off, with traffic controllers directing traffic.

Friday 24 July until Monday 27 July

From Friday, 24 July at 19.00 until Monday, 27 July at 05.00, we will resurface the road at the Beethovenstraat/Gustav Mahlerlaan junction and the southern section of Beethovenstraat. In preparation for the A10 tunnel, we will continue removing underground cables and pipes alongside Beethovenstraat and continue installing the culvert beneath the road.

  • Expeditie ABN AMRO will not be accessible.
  • Q-Park Valley can be accessed via the entrance on Maurice Ravellaan, which is reachable via Antonio Vivaldistraat.
  • Motor traffic
Beethovenstraat will be closed in both directions between The Valley and De Boelelaan. Traffic will be diverted via De Boelelaan and Parnassusweg. The traffic signals at the Beethovenstraat/Gustav Mahlerlaan junction will be switched off, with traffic controllers directing traffic. The traffic signals at De Boelelaan will be back in operation.
  • Cyclists and pedestrians
The eastern side of Beethovenstraat will be closed. Cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted to the opposite side of the street. Until Sunday, 26 July, Spoorslag, alongside AFC football club, will remain open to pedestrians only. After that, Maurice Ravellaan, on the opposite side of the football club, will reopen to all traffic.

June, July and August 2026: Parnassusweg closure
The works described above will alternate with construction work on the new metro viaduct in Parnassusweg. During the works in Parnassusweg, Beethovenstraat will serve as the diversion route. In other words, when one route is closed, the other will remain open.
