Construction site on Arnold Schönberglaan for the Zuidasdok project

Within this construction site, we will set up a prefabrication site: an area where structures are built and then relocated to their intended location. One example of such a structure is the enormous railway bridge that was constructed in 2015 on a prefabrication site near Muiderberg before being transported to its final location over the A1 motorway in 2016.

Building railway bridges

We will be setting up one prefabrication site like this on Arnold Schönberglaan between Gustav Mahlerplein and Parnassusweg, and another between the metro lines on the north side of the station. In 2019, we will use these two sites to construct the railway bridges that will be used for both overground and underground railway services and that will form the roof of the new Brittenpassage: the second entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station. After this, the site on Arnold Schönberglaan will be used to construct the Zuidas tunnel that will take the southern section of the A10 orbital motorway underground. This site is expected to remain in use until 2024.
Prefabrication sites will also be constructed between the southern section of the A10 orbital motorway and the railway tracks next to the EY building. On this site, we will build the railway bridges that will form the roof of the new bicycle tunnel connecting Buitenveldert and the south side of Zuidas to Beatrixpark.

Construction of prefabrication site

Construction of the prefabrication site on Arnold Schönberglaan will commence at the end of July. The bicycle park will be removed to make way for the site, after which cyclists can use the bicycle park underneath Gustav Mahlerplein. We will then erect temporary fencing around the site, which will be replaced by decorated hoardings a few weeks later. In February 2018, all of the trees on this site were felled. The next step is to drain away the water and fill in and flatten the ground. The necessary sand and hardening material will be supplied over a period of three weeks in August via Gustav Mahlerplein, an operation that will be conducted outside the rush hours and under the accompaniment of traffic controllers. Unfortunately, this cannot be done via Parnassusweg as lorries can’t cross the tram lines during the day and performing the activities at night would cause too much noise pollution for the residents.

Construction of the prefabrication site between the metro tracks on the north side of the station and the site between the southern section of the A10 orbital motorway and the tracks by the EY building is scheduled to start between the end of 2018 and the start of 2019.

Meeting on 9 July

On 9 July 2018, we will organize two meetings in De Nieuwe Poort to discuss the necessary work, particularly the work on the prefabrication site on Arnold Schönberglaan. We will also provide more information about developments in the neighbouring area: the Kenniskwartier. You can find more information about these matters in the letter below this article. Of course, you will also be given the opportunity to ask questions.
