Avoid a burn-out, ride your bike more often

Good mental health, professional success and lots of cycling go well together, such is the philosophy of Go Cycling, a new partnership of Amsterdam Zuidas, BYCS, the Green Business Club Zuidas, and Hello Zuidas. Currently, 41% of all employees in Holland goes on sick leave occasionally – significantly higher than the European average. We should note that the Dutch also ride their bicycles more often than the European average but there is lots of ground to be gained in this respect in Zuidas. It has been proven that cycling to work reduces absenteeism due to illness and helps prevent prolonged unavailability for work. Employees who ride their bicycle were found to be more committed, effective and energetic. Cycling reduces stress and fear, including for people who work in Zuidas.

For employers and employees

Go Cycling starts by launching a website – www.go-cycling.org – that offers simple tips to employees for cycling more often. The website provides information on bicycle schemes, local itineraries that help you relax, and options for buying, leasing or sharing bicycles and e-bikes. There is also information about employer schemes to make cycling more attractive for their employees. Moreover, companies can apply for subsidies for a number of activities that facilitate cycling, such as building bicycle parking and shower facilities.

One of the speakers at the event is Ione Avila-Palencia of the Institute for Global Health in Barcelona, Spain.
