Zuidas to have a weekly market

A market has been a long-cherished wish for Zuidas residents. The Zuid district executive board is now making that wish a reality. ‘I’m really pleased that we’ve managed to make it happen’, says Zuid district chairman Sebastiaan Capel. ‘We’re also eager to bring even more vibrancy to Zuidas. This weekly market will help to achieve that.’ The market is not only expected to attract Zuidas residents, but also people from the surrounding neighbourhoods and those working in Zuidas. The fact that Gershwinplein has been chosen as the location is also clearly an invitation to residents of Buitenveldert.

Chosen by draw

There were several candidates eager to organise the weekly market in Zuidas. Ultimately, a draw was held and the winner was the company Marc-t Management, run by market manager Marc Schoonebeek. He has high expectations. ‘It’s fantastic that our market will bring an additional social meeting place to Zuidas’, he says. ‘I expect it to become a real gem. A market staffed by market traders with solid reputations. You really have to experience it for yourself.’

Trial period

After consultation with residents and businesses in Zuidas, the city district has set a framework for the market. There will be up to thirty stalls, mainly selling food. Of course, whether it becomes a success remains to be seen. This is why an 18-month trial period has been agreed, lasting until March 2023. Capel: ‘I’m interested in finding out what local businesses, residents and visitors think. I’ll definitely be taking a look myself.’
