The work will begin on the evening of Thursday 19 August at 8 p.m. There will be fewer trains running from that time onwards. For more information, see the NS travel app or 9292.nl. Starting on the morning of Friday 20 August, there will also be fewer metro services running. Train and metro services will start running normally again on the morning of Monday 23 August.
Cars, cyclists and pedestrians
Local road users will also be affected by the work. The eastern side of Parnassusweg (leading towards the city centre) will be closed between Gustav Mahlerlaan and Strawinskylaan. This closure will last from the evening of Thursday 19 August at 10 p.m. until the morning of Monday 23 August at 5 a.m. Motor traffic will be diverted via De Boelelaan, Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan. Cyclists and pedestrians will need to cross the road. In addition, a pedestrian diversion will be put in place running via Claude Debussylaan, through the Minervapassage in Amsterdam Zuid station. Buses and trams will continue to operate as normal, and the A10 will remain open.
No access to the station from Parnassusweg
Between the evening of Thursday 19 August (10 p.m.) and the morning of Monday 23 August (5 a.m.), it will not be possible to access Amsterdam Zuid station from Parnassusweg.
Additional freight traffic and other inconvenience
There will be a lot of freight traffic on Parnassusweg, Strawinskylaan, Beethovenstraat and De Boelelaan during this period. There may also be some noise due to the work, although during previous weekends when work took place, the disruption due to noise was limited.
What we will do to limit the inconvenience
Throughout the weekend, we will be deploying road sweepers and vacuum trucks to keep the roads clean. The eastern side of Parnassusweg will also be cleaned thoroughly before it reopens on the morning of Monday 23 August. Traffic marshals will be on site throughout the work. People who want to access the bicycle racks on Parnassusweg will be guided by a traffic marshal. Finally, the contractor will be monitoring noise and vibration continuously. If you are inconvenienced by the construction work, you can call our information number (0800-5065) day or night.
The Brittenpassage
Between 19 August 8 p.m. and 23 August 5 a.m. we will be working on the second passenger underpass for Amsterdam Zuid station – the Brittenpassage. That work will involve putting in place two roof sections for the new pedestrian passageway. This will be done on a construction site between the metro tracks, immediately adjacent to the station.
