In the years ahead, the ABN AMRO complex is being renovated by its owner Victory Group. The Circl pavilion is not suitable for expansion and is therefore being dismantled. Icon Real Estate, a division of Victory Group, will carry out the works. In the process, construction materials will be carefully stored and prepared for future reuse – fully in line with the circular philosophy that inspired the building’s design.
Working times and diversions
The works will start on Monday, 13 May 2024 and will take place between 07.00 and 19.00 on weekdays (Monday to Friday). While the works are in progress, the east side of Gustav Mahlerplein, in front of the Circl building, will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists for nine months. The walking routes to the south and rear of the building will be slightly narrowed in order to create space for the work site. Throughout this period, you will be able to make use of the pedestrian and cycle route on the west side of Gustav Mahlerplein. This will be clearly signposted.
Removal of zebra crossing
The zebra crossing opposite the pavilion, in Gustav Mahlerlaan, will be temporarily removed. This is necessary in order to enable construction traffic to access the work site. You will still be able to use the zebra crossing to the west, around 50 m in the direction of Parnassusweg.
11 and 12 May: ‘Shub grab’
As a result of the dismantling of the Circl pavilion, the plants from the building’s gardens will also be given a new life. And you can help: during a special ‘shrub grab’ on Saturday, 11 and Sunday, 12 May, you will have an opportunity to dig up plants and take them home with you.
New office building
In June 2023, the programming came to an end in the Circl pavilion, which opened in September 2017 as a circular meeting centre at the heart of Zuidas. The Circl pavilion is being replaced by a completely new, sustainable office building with amenities. Construction is scheduled to start in the first half of 2025. The owner, Victory Group, plans to present its design to local residents and businesses in the months ahead. Of course, we will keep you informed of developments.
