The number of metro passengers in Amsterdam and the surrounding area is growing fast. To make it possible for services to increase in frequency, it will be possible in 2027 for two different lines to use the track between Amsterdam Central Station and Amsterdam Amstel (the East line). This will reduce disruption and cancellations across the whole of Amsterdam. It also means that the timetable will change. On certain routes, it may be necessary to change trains more often or the route of certain metro lines could be altered.

Four options

Amsterdam Regional Transport has come up with four options for changing the Amsterdam metro network. It is inviting everyone who cares about this to contribute ideas and join the conversation about these four options. This can be done by completing the digital questionnaire on the Amsterdam Regional Transport website or by attending one of the meetings being organised in various municipalities and Amsterdam city districts.

Decision after summer 2025

All of the preferences, concerns and ideas will be collated. Based on this information, combined with technical information from the GVB, the Amsterdam Regional Transport executive committee will decide after the summer of 2025 which of the four options is to be chosen.
