You already faced disruption back in 2022, when we installed a new section of cable ducting underneath Beethovenstraat. Because we will be moving underground cables and pipelines in the period from 19 May until the end of 2025, you will again have to deal with a range of diversions and closures on the corner of Beethovenstraat and De Boelelaan. All of this is necessary in order to enable the construction of the new Ravel residential district. So, what are we planning to do in the months ahead?
Below this article, you will find a full overview of the disruption for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
Relocating cables and pipelines
We will be working with various utility companies to move all kinds of cables and pipelines for gas, heating, cooling, electricity, drinking water, sewage and telecoms to the edges of the new Ravel residential district. We are doing this in order to be able to build The Harmony on plots C and D (see the above map) alongside Beethovenstraat. We will also be using the space created to extend the canal wall from De Boelegracht around the corner to Beethovenstraat.
Plants and flowers undisturbed
As far as possible, we are bundling the cables and pipelines at the edge of the new Ravel residential district. This will reduce any disruption caused to residents by future maintenance and ensure that there is only minimal disturbance to plants and flowers in the parklike neighbourhood.
Coordination
For this large-scale operation, we require assistance from various parties, including Liander (gas and electricity), Vattenfall (heating and cooling) and Waternet (water and sewage system), and a further twelve others responsible for managing the telecom and data cables in the area. Because the utilities still need to remain operational, they cannot all be moved at the same time. In view of all this, scheduling and carrying out the work while at the same time minimising disruption to road users is a complex puzzle. This is why you can expect to face a range of disruption and diversions.
Ravellaan next to Beethovenstraat junction
We will also be doing some work in the new Maurice Ravellaan where the public space currently has temporary landscaping. When the works have been completed in the first quarter of 2026, we will lay the permanent street paving and the junction will have a new, clearer layout.
2026: construction starts on The Harmony
From mid-2026, construction work will start on The Harmony on plots C and D alongside Beethovenstraat. Of course, this will be done on the work site, but it is possible that the cycle path will also be needed. We will soon be drawing up a plan for the closures and diversions required.
Closures and diversions in Beethovenstraat/Ravellaan starting from 19 May 2025
From 19 May until the first quarter of 2026, we will be working on cables and pipelines in various places in Beethovenstraat, between Maurice Ravellaan and De Boelelaan, and in Maurice Ravellaan itself. Below, you will find details of what implications this will have for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
Cyclists and pedestrians
Please note that the east side of Beethovenstraat, between De Boelelaan and Maurice Ravellaan, is closed to cyclists and pedestrians until 2028. However, if it is possible, we will open up the pavement and cycle path earlier. You will be diverted locally to the other side of the road, occasionally via the south side of the junction with De Boelelaan. From the end of October until the first quarter of 2026, Ravellaan will be closed to cyclists. There will be a diversion via Spoorslag.
Motorists
May, June and July 2025
From 19 May until 11 July, it will not be possible for traffic travelling from Ravellaan to turn left into Beethovenstraat and traffic from Beethovenstraat will be unable to turn right into Ravellaan. Ravellaan can be accessed from Vivaldistraat.
August and September 2025
Ravellaan will be fully accessible during this period.
October until the first quarter of 2026
From 6 October until the first quarter of 2026, Ravellaan will be closed from Beethovenstraat. Ravellaan can be accessed from Vivaldistraat.
From Friday, 17 October until Sunday, 19 October, Beethovenstraat will be completely closed in the direction of the city from De Boelelaan during the evenings and at night.
Valley car park
The Valley car park will always remain accessible, either from Beethovenstraat or from Vivaldistraat on the other side of the Ravel residential district.
