In the upcoming period, will be exploring options for making Vivaldi, the neighbourhood between the new residential area Ravel and the Europaboulevard, greener. We will start by digging test trenches to identify which cables and pipelines will need to be moved. We are also making the carriageway narrower and removing parking spaces to create room for trees and plants. The sections of planting, which can already be seen in Domenico Scarlattilaan, are being extended into the surrounding streets, and by 2029/2030, this will create a so-called ‘green loop’ in the central area of Vivaldi.
Digging test trenches
From late April until at least the start of June 2025, we will be digging up the grass or pavement in various places to identify what lies underneath. This may be bundles of cables and pipelines, but could also be the precise location of the underground car parks. At the same time, we will attempt to identify where there is still space to relocate the cables and pipelines. This will enable the utility companies to install the right underground infrastructure to connect the future homes and offices at a later stage. In this first study phase, we are conducting surveys in around 30 places in total. More will follow later.
Disruption
We will be working in various different places and at various times. Any disruption will often be limited to a diversion via the other side of the street, with the help of traffic controllers and signage. But, please note: in the weekend of Saturday 7 June, the north side of Vivaldistraat will only be accessible to car traffic via the diversion De Boelelaan – Albinonistraat – Scarlattilaan. We will then be working on the south side of Vivaldistraat. We will close it for this purpose.
Green loop for water storage
In the future, the green areas in Barbara Strozzilaan, Tomasso Albinonistraat and Domenico Scarlattilaan will combine to form a green loop. Currently paved, this area will be a more pleasant place to walk in and spend time and the green areas will provide cooling on warm days. In addition, the green areas play an important role in water storage: during wet periods, the rainwater drains away slowly into the surface water and the drains preventing both of them from becoming saturated too quickly.
Working and living in Vivaldi
At the moment, the Vivaldi neighbourhood consists mainly of offices and hotels, such as EY, hotel Van der Valk Amsterdam Zuidas and the Holiday Inn. The Eurocenter building is also home to just over 80 residences. In around 2029, the developer Breevast will begin to work on the construction of a residential tower with amenities in the plinth on plot four (see map below) and we already know that we will need to move cables and pipelines for this to happen. According to the current schedule, construction work on a new office on plot 13, between EMA and hotel Van der Valk Amsterdam Zuidas. The layout of the public space will be ready in around 2023, by which time the new residential area Ravel will almost be fully completed.
