In the last two weeks, road users on the south side of Amsterdam have had a lot to endure. There was often congestion on the city roads, causing the inevitable disruption. With the 16-day closure of the A4, A10 Zuid and A10 Oost in the direction of Hengelo/Utrecht now coming to an end, yet another busy weekend is set to start: Friday, 11 and Saturday, 12 July.

Events and holidays in Noord

Friday, 11 July sees the start of the summer holidays in the Noord region. Many people are expected to drive to their holiday destinations on Friday or Saturday. This will further increase the traffic on the diversion routes. The festival season has also started. On 11 and 12 July, De Amsterdamse Zomer festival will be held at the Olympic Stadium. And there are concerts at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on 9 and 11 July.

S108 partially closed

Because of the event in the Olympic Stadium, the S108 exit will be closed to traffic from the direction of A1 Hengelo and A2 Utrecht on the evening of Friday, 11 July from 21.00 until 00.30, just after midnight. This is to allow traffic leaving the event at the Olympic Stadium to exit the city. The S108 access road in the direction of Hengelo/Utrecht will then also still be closed until 21.00 on the evening of Saturday, 12 July.

End of A4, A10 Zuid and Oost closures…

At 05.00 on the morning of Saturday, 12 July, the A10 Oost will reopen, after 16 days of major maintenance. At 21.00 on the evening of Saturday, 12 July, the closure of the A4/A10 Zuid in the direction of Hengelo/Utrecht will also end.

…start of A4 and Coentunnel maintenance works…

At 23.00 on the evening of Friday,11 July, the Public Works department (Rijkswaterstaat) will begin major maintenance work on the A4 between the De Hoek and Burgerveen junctions. On the A4, there will be fewer lanes available in both directions until 05.00 on 20 August. The A5 in the direction of Hoofddorp will be closed between 25 July and 20 August. At 23.00 on the evening of Saturday 12 July, the second Coentunnel – the tunnel in the direction of Zaanstad – will close. The maintenance work on the second Coentunnel will last until 05.00 on 15 September.

…and start of works in Amstelveenseweg

From 21.00 on Friday, 11 July (when the holidays in Noord-Holland start) until 05.00 on Wednesday, 20 August (start of SAIL Amsterdam), Amstelveenseweg will be closed to motorised traffic underneath the A10 Zuid. For the first week, it will also be closed to cyclists and public transport. Between Saturday, 12 July and Saturday, 19 July, tram 24 will not be running between Stadionplein and De Boelelaan.

Parnassusweg closed

From Saturday, 19 July until Monday, 18 August, Parnassusweg will be closed from Mahlerlaan in the direction of Strawinskylaan (heading into the city). For trams, this closure will last a further week until 05.00 on Monday, 25 August. Tram 25 will only be running between A.J. Ernstraat and Uithoorn Centrum. A shuttle bus will run between the stops at A.J. Ernststraat and Zuid station (Strawinskylaan). Tram 5 will run between Zoutkeetgracht and Amsterdam Zuid station and will therefore not run to and from Amstelveen Stadshart.

Fewer trains and metros

On Saturday, 14 and 25 August, there will be a reduced railway and metro service running from and to Amsterdam Zuid station.
