This summer, Philips relocated its headquarters and moved into the completely renovated PI59 building in Prinses Irenestraat, just to the north of Amsterdam Zuid station. The public area around the building, occupied by the Amsterdam International Community School until 2021, was used as a construction site for two years during the renovation. Now that Philips has moved in, we are reinstating the public area around the building. This includes putting back the street paving and planting and making changes to the construction entrance leading to Parnassusweg. It will then be possible for it to be used for the permanent relandscaping at a later stage.

From temporary to permanent

The new landscaping we are currently adding will be temporary. Work on the permanent relandscaping of the second part of Prinses Irenestraat is expected to start in late 2026. We will then be extending the water drainage channel (green canal) all the way to Parnassusweg. This channel, which collects rainwater and drains it away slowly, was put in place some time ago in the part of the street between Beethovenstraat and Prinses Margrietstraat.

Disruption

There is expected to be only limited local disruption during the temporary street-level relandscaping work. Motorised traffic and cyclists can simply travel past the works. Pedestrians will be diverted at certain times. This will be clearly indicated in advance. We will also do our utmost to keep noise disruption to a minimum. We will be using low-noise working methods during regular working hours (from 09.00 to 17.00, Monday to Friday). The weekend of 6-7 September 2025 is an exception. During that weekend, we will be creating the permanent entrance to the car park. We are doing this work at the weekend in order to prevent congestion and blockages in Prinses Irenestraat on working days. During that weekend, we will be working between 09.00 and 19.00 on both days.
