With the recent completion of the social housing in the Stepstone tower, The Pulse of Amsterdam housing and employment complex and the DUWO student accommodation and with the planned development of Ceci housing complex on the horizon, the north side of the Kenniskwartier is certainly looking good for business. But there is also space for pleasure and enjoyment. For example, a cinema recently opened in The Pulse of Amsterdam, with a café and a bar-restaurant also being developed in the same building.

A place like this also needs outdoor areas in which to unwind: reading on a bench or relaxing in the grass under a tree. This is what is now planned for the plot that was previously intended for OBA Next. Locals in the area will be able to enjoy the green spaces for 8 to 10 years, until this plot is developed. Work starts in early 2026 and the temporary city park will be completed in the spring of that year.

Glimpse into the future

The temporary park provides a good impression of what the public realm in Kenniskwartier is set to look like in the future. The main focus of the park will be on green spaces, and we will depart from this only if absolutely necessary. On the plot, we will be planting 16 mature trees, surrounded by a lot of grass and other planting. There will also be seating and space for a table tennis table, for example.

Reusable materials

Since the park will need to disappear again in a few years’ time, we will be using completely reusable materials for the temporary relandscaping. The trees will ultimately also be replanted elsewhere in Amsterdam.

Schedule

Construction starts in early 2026 and is expected to be completed in 2026. We are also exploring options to release parts of the plot (the lawns) for use for creative, temporary initiatives. We hope to provide more information about this in the future.

We will start with the long strip to the right, the areas framed in red will be used for the time being as a construction site for the adjacent plots.
