During the weekend of 10-13 April 2026, the A10 Zuid will be closed in both directions. In addition, there will be no train services at Amsterdam Zuid station on 11 and 12 April. Throughout this weekend, Zuidasdok will be working on both the regeneration of the station and the widening of the A10 Zuid. At the Schinkelbrug, we will continue construction of the new, northernmost bridge required for the widening of the motorway. Here, we will install girders (large concrete beams), which will later support the bridge deck.
Lifting from the existing bridge
The girders, each weighing around 75 tonnes, will be transported to the Schinkelbrug on trailers behind lorries. Using two cranes – one on either side of each girder – we will lift them into position above the support structures of the new bridge 1 (see map below). Part of the lifting operation will take place from the existing bridge. Because this bridge is somewhat older and the load of the cranes must be carefully distributed, the substrate was prepared in advance by installing steel plates. Earlier, we carried out the same operation on the southern side of the Schinkelbrug, where girders were also installed from the existing bridge for a new structure (bridge 9, see map below).
Other works
We are also using the major road closure to carry out additional works at the Schinkelbrug. For example, we are installing new drainage pipes beneath the A10 Zuid to manage rainwater. This is necessary due to the road widening: more asphalt means that rainwater will not drain naturally into the ground as easily. At Amsterdam Zuid station, we will remove a large part of the old train platform canopies during the weekend of 10-13 April. They will be lifted out using cranes positioned on the A10 Zuid. At the same time, preparatory works will take place to the east of the station for the new cycle and pedestrian tunnel between the Antonio Vivaldistraat and Beatrixpark (the Vivaldipassage).
Traffic disruption 10-13 April 2026
From Friday evening, 10 April 2026 at 22.00 until Monday morning, 13 April at 05.00, the A10 Zuid will be closed in both directions. The A4 in the direction of Amsterdam will also be closed. On 11 and 12 April, there will be no train services at Amsterdam Zuid station. Immediately after this weekend, from 13 to 17 April, fewer trains will run to and from Amsterdam Zuid station. Please allow for additional travel time, transfers or alternative routes. More information can be found here.
New Schinkelbrug bridge for local traffic
The expansion of the Schinkel bridge from five to eight bridges is part of the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction and the regeneration of the A10 Zuid. From 2028 onwards, local traffic from Amsterdam Zuid (via access roads S109 and S108) will use the new northern bridge to access the A10 West or the A4 in the direction of Schiphol/Rotterdam.
