What do you need to know about the new Amsterdam Zuid station?

From 1 November 2026, you and around 100,000 other daily travellers will enter Amsterdam Zuid station via the new Brittenpassage. It is located more than 250 metres from the current station, close to Parnassusweg. While this is a major improvement for passengers, it also brings a number of changes. Where can I park my bicycle? Will there be escalators to the platforms? Will I still need to take the same bus or tram to reach the station? And what will happen to the current station? Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions.

Ticket gates

The Brittenpassage will be accessible via ticket gates using an OV-chipkaart, the new OV-pas or your bank card. If you are simply using the passageway to walk from north to south, or vice versa, you can check out again within one hour at no cost.

Stairs, escalators and lifts

Travelling by metro

The metro platforms for Lines 50 (Isolatorweg – Gein), 51 (Isolatorweg) and 52 (Amsterdam Noord) will move to their new location above the new Brittenpassage and will be accessible from the passageway. Construction of the new platforms is now nearing completion and they are already clearly visible from passing trains and metro services.

Bicycle parking

Bicycle racks will be provided immediately outside the entrances to the passageway on both the north and south sides, including dedicated spaces for e-scooters and fat bikes. On the north side, there will also be a two-storey indoor bicycle parking facility with 2,000 spaces. The facility is accessible via an OV-chipkaart, OV-pas or bank card, and the first 24 hours are free. The existing bicycle parking facilities at Strawinskylaan (3,750 spaces), Mahlerplein (3,200 spaces) and Zuidplein (1,400 spaces) will remain available. Cargo bikes and bicycles fitted with front crates are best parked at the Strawinskylaan and Mahlerplein facilities.

Travelling to Amsterdam Zuid station by bus

At present, buses from Amstelveen, Haarlem and Schiphol stop only at the bus station on Strawinskylaan, more than 200 metres from the new station via Zuidplein. Soon, passengers will also be able to get off one stop earlier at a temporary bus stop on Parnassusweg, just a few dozen metres from the Brittenpassage. For the time being, the stops will continue to be named after their locations: Parnassusweg bus stop and Strawinskylaan bus stop.

Travelling to Amsterdam Zuid station by tram

North/South line

Passengers travelling on the North/South line (Line 52) will benefit from less crowded platforms. Soon, passengers leaving the metro will exit on one platform, after which the metro will continue beyond Parnassusweg to reverse direction. Waiting passengers will board from the opposite platform, ensuring that boarding and exiting passengers no longer get in each other’s way.
