The Strawinskyhuis, Prinses Irenestraat 39-43, is being transformed into a new, state-of-the-art office building. Principal contractor du Prie bouw & ontwikkeling b.v. is responsible for coordinating and realising this large-scale renovation. The work started in July 2021. It is scheduled for completion by March 2023. Du Prie has been commissioned by Strawinskyhuis B.V., an alliance between FLOW and Egeria Real Estate Development.

Thorough refurbishment

The Strawinskyhuis dates back to the 1970s and requires thorough refurbishment. The contractor is completely stripping the building. The existing structural grid and framework will remain in place, as will the existing floors. However, the building will be given a completely new façade. The design by architects firm ZZDP creates a state-of-the-art office building featuring flexible and transparent office floors, spread across four layers. The building will also have a patio and atrium. The adjoining two-storey car park is also being renovated.

  • Gross floor area: 10,587 sq. m
  • Office space: 6,141 sq. m.
  • Conference facilities: 1,681 sq. m.
  • Underground car park: 1,004 sq. m
  • Underground bicycle parking facility: 137 sq. m.

Sustainability

The new office will comply with the latest sustainability standards. This includes the use of sustainable materials and solar panels and a thermal energy storage system using a heat pump. The aim is to achieve BREEAM Excellent certification.

Schedule

Demolition work will last until the end of 2021. Renovation work on the structure, façade and roof will then start. Finishing work is scheduled for completion in February 2023 and the construction site and diversions are expected to be removed in March 2023.

Logistics

During the renovations, construction traffic will make only minimum use of Prinses Irenestraat, in order to prevent disruption to this residential neighbourhood as far as possible. A special ramp for construction traffic has been put in place starting in Strawinskylaan.

During the works

The works will take place between around 07.00 and 16.00. The contractor has promised to minimise any noise nuisance and keep the site clean and safe. The transportation of materials etc., will take place outside peak periods: i.e., not between 08.00 and 09.30 or 16.00 and 17.30. Traffic controllers will be on hand at times of major transports.

3 July: meeting to discuss works in Prinses Irenebuurt area

A lot of construction work is taking place between Amsterdam Zuid station and Prinses Irenestraat. In the upcoming period, there will also be works in and around the station. On 3 July 2023, we are organising a walk-in meeting at the Thomaskerk to update you on what is happening.

Light makes all the difference in regenerated Strawinskyhuis

The old Strawinskyhuis in Prinses Irenestraat is now virtually unrecognisable. At the heart of what was once a brutalist complex, there now lies a bright and airy atrium. The building is not yet fully complete: work on it is expected to last until the end of the year.

Strawinskyhuis to have thermal storage heating system installed

A thermal storage heating system is set to be installed at the Strawinskyhuis in Prinses Irenestraat. You can expect some disruption in and around Prinses Irenestraat in the period from 24 October until no later than 15 December.
