Area around new Strawinskyhuis to be relandscaped

The law firm DLA Piper took over the use of the refurbished Strawinskyhuis at the start of January 2024. It is now time to dismantle the construction site and bring some order to the public area around the building. The works will start on Monday, 15 January and will end eight weeks later on Friday, 8 March. When the works have been completed, Strawinskypad, the cycle path and the footpath on the south side of the offices, will be reopened.

Removal of drainage pump next to Prinses Irenestraat

In the first three weeks, between 15 January and 2 February, we will be working in Prinses Irenestraat on the north side of Strawinskyhuis. We will be removing a drainage pump there that was used to regulate the groundwater level during the construction works. Although we will make every effort to reduce noise to a minimum, we do expect some noise nuisance in the immediate vicinity especially during the first week. We also need to slightly narrow Prinses Irenestraat temporarily to a width of (no less than) 5 m. Motorists and cyclists can simply drive or ride past the works. Pedestrians can use the footpath on the other side.

New paving and replanting

As a result of all the construction work for the Strawinskyhuis, the paving around the building has been damaged in some places and has slightly subsided. We are now repairing that. Starting on Monday, 5 February, we will be working on the south side of Strawinskyhuis for around two weeks, in and alongside Strawinskypad. Then, in the last three weeks, starting on Monday, 19 February, we will work on the street paving on the west side of Prinses Amaliaplein. There will also be some replanting where necessary. In the very last week, from Monday, 4 until Friday, 8 March, we will remove all of the construction hoardings and road plates used for the construction road and Strawinskypad will be reopened for pedestrians and cyclists.

Green landscaping of Prinses Irenestraat

The landscaping on the north side of the building, alongside Prinses Irenestraat, is temporary. The whole of Prinses Irenestraat will be given a new, greener landscaping at a later stage. In the future, the water-retardant green strip that runs alongside the Goede Doelen Loterij building, known as the ‘green canal’, will be extended along the full length of Prinses Irenestraat – covering around 500 m from Beethovenstraat to Parnassusweg. More news on this will follow later this year.
