The relandscaping work is needed because of the poor condition of the existing carriageway, the outdated infrastructure and because of a desire to make the area more attractive and future-proof. The De Boelelaan Midden project consists of two key measures:

Measure 1: replacement of carriageway, setting up of 30-km zone

We will start by resurfacing the carriageway and replacing the road substrate. We are also making the central section of De Boelelaan slightly safer and more attractive than it currently is. We are introducing a 30-km speed restriction on the road. This will improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians, cyclists and cars. This first measure will be implemented in the second half of 2026. The work is expected to be completed before 2027.

Measure 2: relandscaping service road and green strip

The second measure involves landscaping the service road on the south side and the strip of greenery on the north side of the road. We are creating more space for trees and exploring the possibility of adding extra water.

Would you like to suggest ideas?

We are inviting residents and interested parties to suggest ideas, especially about the relandscaping of the service road and strip of greenery. Your opinions will help us to ensure that the relandscaping of the central section of De Boelelaan reflects local preferences and needs. In the upcoming period, we intend to engage in extensive conversations with you. These will be online, and in person during pop-up visits, consultation sessions and a residents’ evening. This process will start at the end of August 2025. You are cordially invited to share your views on the plans we have come up with. Please let us know your response by 2 October 2025 at the latest. We will also be reaching out locally (see the schedule in the box below).

How we got here

The relandscaping of De Boelelaan has a long history. In 2012, we relandscaped De Boelelaan West and did the same in De Boelelaan Oost in 2027. We held our first discussions with residents and other interested parties about the central section, between Parnassusweg and Beethovenstraat, back in 2019. By means of a special app, local residents were given an opportunity to suggest ideas about a new design in 2020. In 2022, we also organised an information meeting. After that, the De Boelelaan Midden project went quiet. This was primarily because the project had been handed over to a different internal project team on several occasions.

A new start

We are now making a new start. This includes working on a provisional and definitive design. Unlike before, we will not be moving the road slightly to the south, instead it will stay exactly where it is. This is partly in order to ensure that the project can be achieved on time and in line with the preconditions in place and partly because of residents’ concerns about moving the road towards the housing on the south side.
