Temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius certainly did not stop us, as most of the work was to be carried out by cranes and heavy machinery. However, to lift the girders for the new southern Schinkelbrug bridge safely into position, the A10 Zuid had to be closed. To do this, we planned to close several lanes of the A4 in the direction of Amsterdam well before the De Nieuwe Meer junction. Because of a fault in the traffic signalling system (the overhead matrix signs), we were unable to implement these lane closures in time. As a result, the work has been postponed and will be carried out at the earliest opportunity. We will publish further details on this website soon.

Girders for the new flyover

The technical fault did not affect the overhead matrix signs above the A10 West, so the closure of the road connecting the A10 West to the A10 Zuid remained in place. This meant we were able to continue work on the new flyover that will eventually connect the A10 Zuid to the A4. During the weekend, we installed twelve girders between pillars 2 and 3, bringing the new connection from the A10 Zuid to the A4/Schiphol close to completion. See our earlier article for more information.

Minimal disruption to traffic

Because only the connection from the A10 West to the A10 Zuid was closed, road users on the western side of Amsterdam experienced far less disruption than expected. The previously expected additional journey time of 30 to 60 minutes at known bottlenecks such as Hoofddorpplein was limited to around 10 minutes.
