The steel bascule deck is the movable part of the new Schinkelbrug bridges. Because of its size – around 24 metres high and almost 14 metres wide – the bridge deck was prefabricated in Friesland. The huge structure is currently being transported to Amsterdam via the Wadden Sea and IJsselmeer. The journey had already begun last week, but strong winds forced the vessel to turn back. As a result, the lifting operation also had to be rescheduled. We can now announce a new and definitive date: Thursday, 24 September 2026.

‘Experience Schinkelbrug’ public event
You are very welcome to join us on Thursday, 24 September 2026 between 15.30 and 22.00. The vessel will enter Nieuwe Meersluis between 16.00 and 16.30, after which we will lift the bridge deck into position in the evening. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available during the public event, and there will be information stands where you can find out more about Zuidasdok. You can get answers to all your questions about the widening of the A10 Zuid, the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station and the construction of the A10 Zuid tunnel. TriAX construction consortium will be there with a 3D model showing what the area around the Schinkel will look like in the future. Waternet will provide more information about its work and its involvement in the Schinkelbrug project. Friesland-based steel construction company Solidd and Rijkswaterstaat will also be there. During the afternoon and evening, we will be holding various lectures.

Schinkelbrug
As part of the widening of the A10 Zuid, we will also increase the number of bridges across the Schinkel over the coming years. Schinkelbrug currently consists of five movable bridges: two for motorway traffic, two for trains and one for the metro. We will demolish the southernmost and oldest road bridge and replace it with two new bridges. We will also build two additional bridges for traffic heading towards Amsterdam: one on the northern side and one on the southern side of the existing Schinkelbrug. The new southern bridge will also have a new bicycle path across the Schinkel.
