Zoning plan for museum open for consultation

Hartwig Art Foundation

On 15 September 2021, the City Council voted in favour of the establishment of a new museum of modern art in the former courthouse building in Parnassusweg. On 25 October 2021, we organised a meeting for local residents and other interested parties. The Hartwig Art Foundation – the museum’s initiator and developer – gave a briefing on the provisional design for the museum and the City Council provided information on the process to be followed.

Spatial planning procedures

In order for the museum to be possible, a change needs to be made to the existing zoning plan. We are preparing a so-called ‘postage-stamp zoning plan’ that relates solely to the museum. In addition, an environmental permit will also be required for construction to take place, several trees will have to be felled and a traffic order is needed. The preparations for and announcement of the draft zoning plan, the draft decision on the permit application and the draft traffic order are all being coordinated and happening simultaneously.

Open for consultation

The City Executive has released the draft zoning plan for the museum for public inspection. This means that the draft zoning plan, together with the other provisional decisions, are open for consultation from 3 February until 16 March 2022. During this period, anyone can submit an opinion.

You can consult the documents digitally here (in Dutch). You can also do this in person at the Zuid City Office (President Kennedylaan 923, 1079 MZ, Amsterdam) and the Centrum City Office (Amstel 1, 1011 PN, Amsterdam). For details of opening times (and to make an appointment because of coronavirus restrictions) you can telephone 14 020 or take a look at www.amsterdam.nl.

Opinions

Opinions about the draft zoning plan, the draft permit and the draft traffic order can be submitted using the digital forms on www.odnzkg.nl. You can also send your opinion in writing to Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaalgebied, Regiebureau, Ebbehout 31, 1507 EA Zaandam. Responses will be provided to the opinions submitted and they will be taken into account in the decision-making process. The decision-making is scheduled to happen in the summer.

Information meeting on 15 February

In order to inform you about the decisions currently being prepared and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions, we are organising an information meeting together with the Hartwig Art Foundation. You are warmly invited to attend. Of course, all of the coronavirus measures will apply for (attendance at) the meeting.
