Dam removed from pond in front of Kapel and Convict

The temporary dam was intended for construction traffic travelling to and from Kapel & Convict after plans were announced for the Conservatorium van Amsterdam to open an annex here. Trucks would then be able to use the dam to access a construction road in order to avoid the cycle paths.

Water balance

However, in April 2022, it was announced that the plans for the Conservatorium will now not go ahead. In view of the increases in energy prices and construction costs, the Executive Board of the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK) felt that it was too great a risk. The dam was permitted to remain in place for a year. Since we do not know when any new development will happen, the dam now needs to be removed in order to restore the water balance in Beatrixpark. The work will start in the week of 17 October 2022. By doing the work at this time of year, we are taking account of the hibernation and breeding season of any animals living in the water.

Without the dam, the water balance in the park will be restored

Market consultation

We have now launched a market consultation to find a new purpose for the buildings. The aim of this market consultation, which lasts until 14 October 2022, is to sound out interest from new parties for the redevelopment of these monumental buildings and identify any potential obstacles. The cultural and/or social zoning that applies to these buildings remains unchanged.
