As we reported earlier on the work in Luchtvaartstraat, this includes moving pipes and cables. There is currently a transformer below the southern section of the Schinkelbrug bridge, which supplies power to the surrounding area and street lights. This transformer also supplies the power required to operate the southern section of the bridge. Because we are going to widen the southern carriageway of the A10 at this location and redesign the whole De Nieuwe Meer interchange, this transformer needs to be relocated, along with a lot of pipes and cables. The Schinkelbrug transformer will be moved to a building on Jaagpad.
Section of Jaagpad will be closed
In order to move the power cables to the new location, we will need to relocate a 10,000 Volt cable which runs underneath Jaagpad. We will be working on this between 17 and 28 October 2022. A section of Jaagpad will therefore be closed during that period. Cyclists, pedestrians and vehicle traffic will be diverted, with clear signposting where required, so that all road users can still reach their destinations.

More cables, pipes and glass fibre
From 31 October to 25 November, we will remove the power cables and glass fibre cables from the embankment of the A10. At the same time, new glass fibre cables will be installed. The road will be narrower than usual due to this work, but cyclists will still be able to pass. There will be signposts and temporary traffic lights for vehicle traffic. The new cables need to cross Riekerweg at two different locations, meaning that the road will be closed in places, including around Tuinpark Ons Buiten. Sections of the road will only be closed after 17.00 and the management of the Gardens will be consulted.
Cutting back the bushes
We will also need to cut back some of the bushes in order to lay the new glass fibre cables under the ground along Riekerweg. An ecologist has verified which wild animals live there: a marten and various species of mouse. Since we are already aware of these animals, we can take them into account by cutting these bushes back in a more targeted manner and not removing any of them.
De Nieuwe Meer interchange
The redesign of the De Nieuwe Meer interchange (including the Schinkelbrug bridge) is part of the Zuidasdok project. A new motorway fly-over will be built, and the A10 southern carriageway will be widened from four lanes to six lanes in each direction. We are working on a safe and better flow of traffic on the A10 south. To make this possible, major changes are required to the De Nieuwe Meer interchange – and later to the Amstel interchange too.
