Crossing connects both halves of Mahlerlaan

Currently, cyclists or pedestrians who want to cross Parnassusweg from Gustav Mahlerlaan have to take a 100 m diversion in a southerly direction via the traffic lights along De Boelelaan. Alternatively, they can head 100 m in the opposite direction and go via the tram stop underneath the A10. Neither of these are convenient, which is why we will be working on a crossing for cyclists and pedestrians from Monday, 17 October until Friday, 2 December. This will connect together both parts of Gustav Mahlerlaan and it will no longer be necessary to walk or cycle the long way around. During this seven-week period, we will generally be working between 07.00 and 19.00, but this will differ at certain times. We are making every effort to ensure that the area remains accessible during the work. Below, in chronological order, are the times that deviate from the general schedule, with the related diversions.

Work on and next to the tram tracks

From Monday, 17 until Friday, 21 October, we will only be working between 22.00 in the evenings and 05.00 in the mornings on and alongside the tram track on Parnassusweg next to Gustav Mahlerlaan. This work is being done at night in order to enable tram lines 25 and 5 to continue to run their normal schedule. During the work at night, the traffic lane will be closed in a southerly direction between Gustav Mahlerlaan and the A10. Traffic coming from Stadionweg will be diverted via Strawinskylaan and Beethovenstraat in the direction of De Boelelaan and vice-versa.

In the direction of Amstelveen, from 17 until 21 October

Work on the east side of Parnassusweg

In the weekend from Friday, 28 until the morning of Monday, 31 October, we will be putting a speed bump in place at the new crossing. We will also add central islands that will guide cyclists and pedestrians across the track. The work will take place throughout the weekend from 19.00 on Friday until 05.00 on Monday. During this weekend, Parnassusweg will be closed at the junction with Gustav Mahlerlaan for cyclists, pedestrians and motor vehicles travelling in a northerly direction towards Strawinskylaan. Pedestrians will be diverted past the work; cyclists can walk past or opt for the diversion indicated by signposts. Cars and buses will be diverted via De Boelelaan, Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan. In the weekend from 4 to 6 November, the previous weekend’s work will be completed, with the same working hours and diversions.

Work on the crossing on the west side of Parnassusweg

In the week from Monday, 7 until Friday, 11 November, we are putting the crossing in place on the west side of Parnassusweg. This work will be done in the evenings and nights between 20.00 and 05.00 in order to minimise traffic disruption during the day. Parnassusweg will be closed in a southerly direction during the work. Cars and buses can take an alternative route via Strawinskylaan, Beethovenstraat and De Boelelaan. Trams will run as normal during the evenings.

In the direction of Amstelveen, from 7 until 11 November

Work on the cycle path and crossing on the west side of Parnassusweg

From Monday, 14 November until Friday, 25 November, we will be working daytimes only from 07.00 until 19.00 on the cycle path on the west side of Parnassusweg, where the traffic is travelling in a southerly direction. Only cyclists will be diverted during this work. However, in the final week, from Monday, 28 until Friday, 2 December, all traffic travelling in a southerly direction will be diverted as we complete work on the junction on the west side.

In the direction of Amstelveen, from 28 November until 2 December

Throughout the entire period from 17 October until 2 December, there may also be times during regular working hours when cyclists and pedestrians are temporarily diverted past the work or to the other side of the road. Traffic controllers will be deployed to ensure this can all happen safely.
