The process of landscaping the new Europaplein-Oost goes back several years. Back in spring 2019, we asked local residents for their ideas on the new landscaping of the little square opposite RAI, between Europaboulevard, President Kennedylaan and Rooseveltlaan. One key condition was the addition of more green space, but that also meant losing some of the parking spaces. The inclusion of the Virtual Fountains artwork also proved quite controversial.
Intimate local park
By early 2021, a definitive design for an intimate local park was in place. Somewhere with plenty of green, playground facilities, seating, art and an underground water-retention system. Eventually, in November 2021, work started on the new square. Now, a year on, the relandscaping of Europaplein-Oost has been completed and local residents can make use of it.
Opening: 17 November from 16.30
Starting at 16.30 on Thursday, 17 November, you are welcome to come and view the final result, with musical accompaniment from a Dixieland band. Children will be able to try out the new playground and information will be provided about the underground rainproof measures. At around 17.40, Flora Breemer, member of the Zuid district executive board, and Pieter Jan Jongen, Zuidas deputy director, will be ‘unveiling’ the relandscaped square and Virtual Fountains artwork. This is expected to take until 18.15.
