Amsterdam Zuid station sheet piling works set to continue until summer

Update:

We will also be working on the sheet piling between Monday 30 January and Friday 3 February, and between Monday 6 February and Friday 10 February from 7.00 until 19.00.

We have been working on this since the weekend of 14 January and are set to continue into May. We are doing the work on working days as far as possible, but also regularly at weekends, because the busy weekly railway and metro service makes anything else impossible. This means that there will be an adjusted metro service at weekends. We are attempting to limit noise nuisance during the work. Throughout this period, we will be using a technique known as water jetting, which involves the use of water when driving the piling into the ground. This softens the substrate, making pile driving easier. However, the work will certainly not be silent.

28 and 29 January

We previously announced that we will be removing existing sheet piles and adding new ones between the metro tracks in the weekend of 28 and 29 January. The new walls will form the contours of the construction pit that we will dig later. In it, we will build the foundations for part of the roof for staircases/elevators in the Brittenpassage, the additional passenger tunnel being added to Amsterdam Zuid station. At the same time, we are inserting several piles into the ground that will form the foundations for the new roof section of the Brittenpassage. On Saturday, we will be working from 07.00 until 21.00. On Sunday, we will start and stop slightly earlier: working from 9.00 until no later than 19.00.

Starting at 21.00 on the evening of Saturday 28 January, we will also be working on the roadside between the metro track and the A10. During this time, we will be removing 11 trees and cutting back the greenery to make space for the upcoming work. To do this, we will be closing one lane of the A10 to traffic in the direction of Zaanstad, Rotterdam and Schiphol for several hours.

11 and 12 February

In the weekend of 11 and 12 February, we will continue removing and inserting sheet piling for the Brittenpassage and drilling foundation piles next to Minervapassage. This work will be done according to the same weekend timetable: Saturday from 07.00 until 21.00 and Sunday from 09.00 until 19.00.

13 to 17 February

Immediately after the weekend work, we will be spending five days inserting sheet piling next to the existing passenger tunnel, the Minervapassage, on weekdays from 07.00 until 19.00.

Early March until late May

In the first two weeks of March, we will be adding so-called tieback anchors. These will provide support to the sheet piles, ensuring that they are firmly anchored. Between mid-April and early May, we will insert several piles into the ground. This work is expected to cause hardly any nuisance to the local area. We will then return in April for a further weekend to add the final sheet piles for the time being. The sheet piling work is then scheduled to resume in August.
