New Service & Tickets desk in station passageway

We are building this room next to the entrance to the Minervapassage, from Zuidplein, on the left-hand side. The building is expected to be completed before the end of this year, after which GVB Service & Tickets will move in. The existing desk needs to move from its current position to create space for the works on the Minervapassage. Back in June, we already moved a section of the new roof for this passageway, which will be much taller and wider in the future than now, into position. The regeneration of  Amsterdam Zuid station is necessary in order to accommodate growing passenger numbers at the station.

Noise disruption and closure of OV chipcard access gates

From 14 August, we will put in place construction hoardings with noise-control barriers in the passageway behind which the work will take place. We will then start removing tiles and soil. On 19 August between 07.00 and 10.00, we will then remove some old foundations, which may cause some noise disruption. In the week of 28 August, we will pour the new concrete floor of the building and one row of OV chipcard access gates will need to be closed for one evening for this to happen.

Night-time work and stewards

In the week of 4 September, we will spend up to five nights building the wooden frame for the room. There are too many passengers travelling through the passageway for this work to be done safely during the day. This work can also cause noise disruption. In the location where we are building the new Service & Tickets desk, the Minervapassage will also soon be narrowed. In the week of 14 August and the week of 4 September, stewards will be on hand at peak periods to inform passengers and guide them if necessary.

Accommodation for several years

As soon as the new desk opens at the end of 2023, we will be able to demolish the existing Service & Tickets building in the Minervapassage. The new accommodation is expected to remain in use for several years, but will be removed again when we start widening the Minervapassage. It is currently around 12 m in width, but will ultimately be 40 m wide. In the renovated Minervapassage, there will be retail outlets on both sides as well as a bicycle park.
