From 29 November until 2 December 2024, we worked non-stop throughout the weekend at five different places alongside the A4 and the A10 Zuid. This included installing sheet piling, moving street lighting and doing ground work in preparation for the large-scale reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction. The work went smoothly and according to schedule, although motorists faced traffic jams at certain times.

Accident and congestion in the city

This was the first of three consecutive weekends when we are closing the road connecting the A10 Zuid to the A4 (Schiphol/Rotterdam). There were times during the weekend when, as expected, journey times increased by up to 30 minutes because of accidents on the A10. The worst was on Saturday afternoon, when journey times increased by up to 25 minutes as a result of an accident on the A10. The roads running through the city also became congested several times, including at Hoofddorpplein and in Zeilstraat. This also caused disruption to public transport. Our personal travel advice service Ask&GO provided bespoke travel advice to passengers 93 times.

Two further weekend closures in December 2024

The next weekend road closure will start at 22.00 on the evening of Friday, 6 December and last until 05.00 on the morning of Monday, 9 December. In order to take as much pressure off the A10 Zuid as possible, the S109 access road will also be closed from Europaboulevard to the A10 Zuid between 08.00 and 20.00 on Saturday and Sunday. All traffic will be diverted via the A2 and A9. The last of the three weekend road closures will start at 22.00 on the evening of Friday, 13 December and last until 05.00 on the morning of Monday, 16 December.
