In the weekend of 14-17 March 2025, we closed the A4 to traffic in the direction of Amsterdam, between the Badhoevedorp and De Nieuwe Meer junctions. The work included installing sheet piling, setting up a construction site and moving a traffic gantry (support structure where the road signs are).

Road to be moved temporarily

These works are part of the major reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction. In order to widen the A10 Zuid, we also need to renovate a number of viaducts. For example, the viaduct used by traffic from the A4 travelling in the direction of the A10 West Zaanstad will be widened in the future. In order to make room for this new viaduct, we are temporarily moving the A4. We are now making preparations for this temporary move.

Traffic disruption not as expected

In advance, we advised drivers to expect increased journey times of between 30 minutes and an hour. This advice was definitely heeded, because the road remained relatively quiet. At certain times, delays slightly exceeded 20 minutes. Although Sunday was also the day of the Amstelveen spring marathon, disruption was not as bad as expected and there was only limited congestion.

21-24 March 2025: A4 closes again

In the weekend of 21-24 March 2025, we will again be closing the A4 to traffic in the direction of Amsterdam, between the Badhoevedorp and De Nieuwe Meer junctions. Please allow up to one hour extra for your journey. During this weekend, the TriAX construction consortium (Besix, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans) will continue its preparatory work for the (temporary) road relocation.
