In the summer of 2025, the TriAX construction consortium (Besix, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans) will be building the new support structures that will be needed in order to widen the A10 Zuid. At our information market on 11 March, our expert gave a presentation on how we will widen the viaduct and what work will be involved in that process. We will need the summers of 2025, 2026 and 2027 in order to be able to reposition the S108 access road that heads in the direction of Schiphol/Rotterdam. We will also be making changes to the carriageway underneath the viaduct in order to improve traffic flow.

Closed to motorised traffic

We are completely closing Amstelveenseweg underneath the A10 viaduct to motorised traffic for more than five weeks: from Wednesday, 12 July (the start of the summer holidays in Noord-Holland) until Wednesday, 20 August (the date when SAIL Amsterdam starts). The cycle path and footpath on the Amsterdam UMC (location VUmc) side will also be closed throughout this period. Cyclists and pedestrians heading in and out of the city can make use of the west side of Amstelveenseweg.

Metro, tram and bus

The Amstelveenseweg metro stop on the east side of Amstelveenseweg will also be closed during this period. The bicycle parking spaces will be removed on this side. Temporary bicycle spaces will be added on the other side of the road. Starting on 12 July, tram number 24 will also be out of service for one week. However, buses will continue to travel via Amstelveenseweg throughout this period.

Save the date: information meeting on Tuesday, 15 April

On Tuesday, 15 April, you can come along and find out more about the works and closures on and around the A10 Zuid, including the work in Amstelveenseweg. You are invited to join us at the Witte Huis Amsterdam (IJsbaanpad 45), on the corner next to Amstelveenseweg. Keep a close eye on this website for further updates and be sure to subscribe to our newsletter.

After 2025: new S108 access road

The S108 access road in the direction of the A10 West and the A4 Schiphol/Rotterdam, on the north side of the viaduct, is being moved to the other side of Amstelveenseweg. As a result, drivers will no longer access the A10 Zuid at low speed via a hairpin bend, but will drive past the Tripolis building directly onto the orbital ring road. Traffic will be able to merge more smoothly and safely. The new access road will be completed in 2028.

After 2025: modified junction at viaduct

Underneath the viaduct, improvements will be made to the layout of the junction. Traffic between Amsterdam and Amstelveen will be separated from traffic heading to the A10 Zuid. This will make the situation clearer for drivers. The new S108 access road will make the connection easier, helping to improve traffic flow. The new junction layout will be completed in 2028.

Major disruption in 2025

This year, we are also working hard on the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station and the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction. These works in Amstelveenseweg will come hot on the heels of a 16-day closure of the A10 Zuid and A10 Oost in the direction of Utrecht/Hengelo. In this overview (pdf, in Dutch), you can see the major disruption expected in 2025.

Widening of A10 Zuid

The A10 Zuid, between the Amstel and De Nieuwe Meer junctions, is being increased from four to six lanes in both directions: four of them for through-traffic and two for local traffic. This will make it safer and improve traffic flow. For this purpose, we are building or renovating 14 viaducts in and around the De Nieuwe Meer junction, including the viaduct next to Amstelveenseweg.
