In the early hours of Saturday morning, construction consortium TriAX (Besix, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans) began assembling the enormous cranes needed to lift eight huge girders into place. These concrete girders form the deck of the new viaduct, which will carry additional lanes. The new viaduct is needed because the existing one cannot be widened.

Dismantling and reassembling

By Saturday evening, the cranes were being dismantled again, ready to be reassembled in a new position. This allowed the final girders to be lifted into place on Sunday. The work was completed on Sunday evening.

Widening the A10 Zuid

We are widening the A10 Zuid between the De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel junctions. We are adding two lanes in each direction to the existing four, bringing the total to six lanes in each direction. This will separate through traffic from local traffic. There will be four lanes for through traffic and two lanes for local traffic (exits and access roads S108 and S109). To widen the motorway and separate these traffic flows, we also need to modify viaducts and bridges.
