In the summer of 2025, tram 25 (the Amstel tram) was given a new temporary stop in Parnassusweg. The stop that was here was obstructing construction of the tunnel in the A10 Zuid. From 16 February until 2 March (the spring holiday), work will be carried out here on an extra turning track to enable trams from Uithoorn to turn around. An extra platform will also be added and the crossing for pedestrians will be completed on the north side of the stop. In the same period, there will be road surfacing works in Parnassusweg in a northerly direction (heading into the city). This will cause disruption to car traffic, tram users, cyclists and pedestrians.

Disruption for car traffic, cyclists and pedestrians and tram

Car traffic
In the period from 16 February until 2 March, Parnassusweg will be closed in a northerly direction (heading into the city) between Gustav Mahlerlaan and Strawinskylaan. Through-traffic will be diverted via De Boelelaan, Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan.

Cyclists and pedestrians
Cyclists on the east side of Parnassusweg will continue to be diverted via the other side of Parnassusweg up to and including Monday, 4 April. The crossing for cyclists and pedestrians next to Gustav Mahlerlaan will remain in use. During the road-surfacing works, it may be necessary to briefly close the crossing, in which case cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted.

Tram
During the period from 21 February (01:00) until 2 March (05:00), there will be no trams running between the A.J. Ernstraat and Amsterdam Zuid station tram stops. Tram 25 will only be running between A.J. Ernstraat and Uithoorn Centrum. Tram 5 will run a shorter route ending at Amsterdam Zuid station and will not run between Amsterdam Zuid and Amstelveen Stadshart. A shuttle bus will run between the stops at A.J. Ernststraat and Zuid Station (Strawinskylaan). There will be signs to indicate this at the tram stop. Up-to-date travel information on how tram and bus services will be affected can be found on the GVB website.

Brittenpassage and A10 Zuid tunnel

In 2027 at the latest, the entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station will be moved to the west. This is when the second passenger tunnel, the Brittenpassage, will be opening, after which we will be closing the existing station passageway for several years for thorough refurbishment. The metro and railway platforms will also move to the west. From then on, the new and temporary tram stop for the Amstel tram (line 25) in Parnassusweg will be the nearest tram stop to the entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station. Ultimately, the permanent Amstel tram stop will be on the south side of Amsterdam Zuid station, in Arnold Schönberglaan. But before that, we will first build the southern tunnel in the A10 Zuid here. The tram stop will be on the roof of the tunnel.
