Update – Wednesday 17 June. Works will start one week later than previously announced. The eastern carriageway will now be closed from Thursday 25 June at 7.00 am until Friday 3 July at 7.00 pm. The second closure still begins on Monday 24 August, as detailed below.
During these periods, we will be constructing foundations for the new metro viaduct above the eastern carriageway of Parnassusweg. This can only be done safely without road traffic. The entire northbound carriageway (towards the city centre) will be closed from:
Thursday 18 JuneFrom Thursday 25 June, 7.00 am until Friday 3 July, 7.00 pm- Monday 24 August, 7.00 am until Friday 28 August, 7.00 pm
In addition, traffic will be stopped briefly on several occasions between 3 and 19 July.
Amsterdam Zuid station remains accessible
The pedestrian and cycle path alongside this carriageway has already been closed for some time and will remain closed until the end of November 2026. The entrances to the train and metro platforms are still accessible, but only via the southern side of the station.
Diversion for road traffic
platforms are still accessible, but only via the southern side of the station.
During the works, road traffic will be diverted via Mahlerlaan, Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan. See the map below:
20 July – 17 August 2026: closure of Beethovenstraat
We will alternate Parnassusweg works with preparatory work on Beethovenstraat for the construction of the A10 tunnel. From Monday 20 July at 5.00 am until Monday 17 August 2026 at 1.00 am, Beethovenstraat will be fully closed to motor traffic. During this period, Parnassusweg will serve as the diversion route.
Viaduct for the North/South line
We are extending the North/South line tracks across Parnassusweg to allow for a possible future extension of the line to Schiphol Airport. To enable the tracks to cross Parnassusweg, we are building an additional viaduct. Current works include the viaduct deck, the foundations on either side (the abutments), and a building for the metro signalling and control system (S&C). Towards the end of 2026, we will construct the section of the viaduct above the western carriageway (away from the city centre) of Parnassusweg, which will mean further closures for motor traffic, cyclists and pedestrians. We will, of course, keep you informed of further developments.
