Halfway through 2023, in Kop Zuidas a new residential building on Gaasterlandstraat has been finished. The Newton houses 101 modern and energy-efficient apartments. The construction of the private sector homes started in 2021.

Commissioned by developer COD, The Newton was designed by Diederendirrix Architects and its evergreen roof terrace filled with plants and bushes was designed by Felixx Landshape Architects and Planners. The gross floor area of the building covers a total of 12,000 sq. m. and there are 101 apartments, ranging from around 46 to 110 sq. m. This is non-subsidised, private sector housing. The triangular plinth of the building, located in what will be Hogelandplein, also has room for commercial accommodation covering 175 sq. m.

Amsterdamse school

The Newton has been built in the red-brick architectural style of the Amsterdamse School and features plenty of greenery on and around the building. It also has a spacious, easily accessible bicycle park and is connected to the water-retardant green infiltration strips that surround the building and are characteristic of the Kop Zuidas area. In these, rainwater is collected from the roofs, roof gardens, and balconies that store water.
