Practical information for Amsterdam Zuid station

The new Brittenpassage is located 200 metres from the current passageway, the Minervapassage. If you are standing in front of the entrance on Gustav Mahlerplein, the new passageway is located 200 metres to your left. You can reach it by walking via Arnold Schönberglaan.

If you are standing in front of the entrance on Zuidplein, the new passageway is located 200 metres to your right. You can reach it by walking via Eduard van Beinumstraat.

You can also access the train platforms via the entrances on Parnassusweg.

1) Outside the station

On the north side (Eduard van Beinumstraat/Zuidplein) and the south side (Arnold Schönberglaan) of Amsterdam Zuid station, right next to the entrance to the Brittenpassage, there are bicycle racks available. There are also dedicated spaces for (e-)scooters and fatbikes.

2) In the Brittenpassage

In the Brittenpassage (north side) there is an indoor bicycle parking facility with 2,000 spaces. You can check in with an OVpay card, debit card or OV-chipkaart. The first 24 hours are free. Cyclists can enter the facility from the entrance at Eduard van Beinumstraat. After parking your bicycle, you can walk directly from the bicycle storage area into the passageway.

3) Bicycle parking facilities nearby

• Gustav Mahlerplein: 3.200 spaces
• Zuidplein: 1.400 spaces

Cargo bikes and bicycles with crates are best parked in the Strawinskylaan and Mahlerplein facilities.

For Amsterdam Zuid station, you should get off at the Parnassusweg tram stop. The following tram lines stop there and depart from there:

• Tram line 5 (Amstelveen Stadshart – Westerpark)
• Tram line 6 (Amstelveen Westwijk – Strawinskylaan). From 1 November 2026, this tram line will continue to the new terminus at Parnassusweg
• Tram line 25 (Uithoorn Centrum – Muiderpoort – Flevopark)

From the opening of the new passage on 1 November 2026, tram 6 will run to Parnassusweg and turn there on the turnback track.

Arrivals

From 1 November 2026, there will be a new bus stop at Parnassusweg, a few dozen metres from the new entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station. At this Parnassusweg bus stop, buses will arrive from:

• Amstelveen
• Haarlem
• Schiphol
• Regional buses from Beverwijk
• GVB night bus N84

Departures

At the Strawinskylaan bus stop (just over a 200 metres’ walk via Zuidplein to Amsterdam Zuid station), buses depart in the direction of:

• Amstelveen
• Haarlem
• Schiphol
• Beverwijk

From mid-October 2026, passengers travelling to Amsterdam Zuid station should get off at the Parnassusweg bus stop, a few dozen metres from the new Brittenpassage. The GVB night bus N84 will also stop here.

Buses from Amstelveen, Haarlem, Schiphol and Beverwijk will continue to stop at the bus station on Strawinskylaan, just over a 200 metres’ walk via Zuidplein to the new station.

For the time being, the stops will keep the names of the places where they are located, so ‘Parnassusweg bus stop’ and ‘Strawinskylaan bus stop’.

The metro platforms for line 50 (Isolatorweg – Gein), line 51 (Isolatorweg) and line 52 (Amsterdam Noord) will be relocated above ground at Amsterdam Zuid station from 1 November 2026. They will be accessible via the Brittenpassage.

There are ticket gates in the passageway for passengers transferring between metro and train. You check out from the metro and check in for the train, or vice versa. You can access the metro and train platforms via the passageway.

No. For the time being, the frequency of the North/South line (metro line 52) will not be adjusted.

Passengers travelling on the North/South line (Line 52) will benefit from less crowded platforms. Soon, passengers leaving the metro will exit on one platform, after which the metro will continue beyond Parnassusweg to reverse direction. Waiting passengers will board from the opposite platform, ensuring that boarding and exiting passengers no longer get in each other’s way.

The Brittenpassage provides a connection between Eduard van Beinumstraat/Zuidplein on the north side and Arnold Schönberglaan on the south side. The passageway is accessible via ticket gates using an OVpay card, debit card or OV-chipkaart. If you are simply using the passageway to walk from north to south, or vice versa, you can check in and out within an hour at the NS ticket gates, or within 20 minutes at the GVB ticket gates, at no cost.

In the new Minervapassage (the current passageway, after it has been refurbished), you will be able to walk through the passageway without checking in and out.

There are ticket gates in the passageway for passengers transferring between metro and train. You check out from the metro and check in for the train, or vice versa. You can access the metro and train platforms via the passageway.

Yes. The two rail platforms will each be accessible from both sides of the Brittenpassage, providing a total of four staircases, two escalators and two lifts. Each of the two metro platforms will have one access point, with a staircase, an escalator and a lift.

We expect the Brittenpassage to be very busy. It is necessary to retain enough space for all passengers and people transferring during peak periods. For that reason, we are cautious about installing benches and seating areas. Once the Minervapassage becomes available again and passengers are spread across the two passageways, there may be room to place a few benches. This will depend on passenger volumes at the time.

There will be benches and enclosed glass waiting areas on the platforms. There may be fewer than you were used to at the old station. That is due to the limited space at the new station. The platform section above the Brittenpassage is largely made of glass, which is less suitable for attaching or positioning objects on. In addition to benches, there are other objects, such as waste bins, that also require space. Amsterdam Zuid is also a very busy station. We need to retain sufficient space for arriving, transferring, waiting and departing passengers. This calls for careful integration of all the necessary platform furniture and equipment.

There will be seven shops and an OV service point in the Brittenpassage. NS will announce at a later date exactly which shops there will be. There will also be a kiosk on each train platform this autumn.

When the refurbishment of the current passageway starts in November 2026, the shops located there will close. The Minervapassage and a small area around it will then become a construction site. Once the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station is fully completed, there will once again be shops outside the passageways.
