Part of the structural renovation of the A10 Zuid involves the reconstruction of the Amstel junction. This project is needed in order to separate through-traffic and local traffic from each other and add two extra lanes in both directions.
Work on viaducts
On the A10 Zuid between the Amstel and De Nieuwe Meer junctions, the number of lanes is being increased from four to six in each direction: four for through-traffic and two for local traffic. In order to make this possible, we are building or adapting 23 viaducts at or around the Amstel junction, adding new connections, building new bridges across the Amstel and replacing the southern Rozenoordbrug bridge. In the future, the small cloverleaf in the junction will disappear. Traffic coming from Rijnstraat (S110)/Utrechtsebrug (Utrecht bridge) will no longer be able to access the A10-Oost directly. It will use the S109 or S111 instead.
Rozenoordbrug
The Rozenoordbrug currently consists of five bridges across the Amstel. The most southerly and oldest bridge is being demolished and replaced by a new one. For traffic heading for Amsterdam, we are also building two extra bridges: one on the north side and one on the south side of the existing Rozenoordbrug. The lanes will be separated from each other by noise barriers and we will use noise-dampening asphalt.
Bicycle street and modifications to Europaboulevard
We are making changes to the local road network in various places. For example, the existing connection for cyclists across the southern Rozenoordbrug bridge will be moved to the new bridge intended for traffic heading for Amsterdam. Ouderkerkerdijk, between the Amstel and the Police Academy, will become a designated street for bicycles. Modifications to Europaboulevard will also be needed, because this is where the carriageways connect to the tunnel into which the A10 Zuid will be diverted at the centre of Zuidas.
Schedule
The tenders for this project are scheduled to be launched in 2024.
