Commissioned by developer COD, The Newton was designed by Diederendirrix Architects and its evergreen roof terrace filled with plants and bushes was designed by Felixx Landshape Architects and Planners. The gross floor area of the building will cover a total of 12,000 sq. m. and there will be 101 apartments, ranging from around 46 to 110 sq. m. This will be non-subsidised, private sector housing. The triangular plinth of the building, located in what will be Hogelandplein, also has room for commercial accommodation covering 175 sq. m.
The Newton will be built in the red-brick architectural style of the Amsterdamse School and will feature plenty of greenery on and around the building. It will also have a spacious, easily accessible bicycle park and will be connected to the water-retardant green infiltration strips that surround the building and are characteristic of the Kop Zuidas area. In these, rainwater is collected from the roofs, roof gardens, and balconies that store water.
