Since the summer of 2024, tram 25 has been running all the way to Uithoorn. The final stage of the Uithoorn line project is the addition of the stop in Parnassusweg close to Amsterdam Zuid station. Currently, the tram still stops and turns in Strawinskylaan. In 2027, the entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station will be temporarily moved slightly to the west. The new station passageway, the Brittenpassage, will then be in use and the existing passageway (Minervapassage) will be closed for major renovation works. The metro and railway platforms will also move to the west. From then on, the new temporary tram stop for the Amstel tram (line 25) in Parnassusweg will be the nearest tram stop to the entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station.

To the north of Gustav Mahlerlaan

The existing tram stops in Parnassusweg are obstructing construction of the planned tunnel for the A10 Zuid. The new tram stop will be to the south of the construction site and to the north of Gustav Mahlerlaan and will replace the existing tram stops in Parnassusweg. All trams to Amstelveen and Uithoorn will depart from the central platform. At rush hour and during works, the tram can turn around here. On the side platform, trams passing through will travel to Strawinskylaan and beyond. On the south side, there will be a connection to the existing crossing for cyclist and pedestrians next to Gustav Mahlerlaan. On the north side, there will be a new pedestrian crossing over Parnassusweg. The existing crossing for pedestrians and cyclists next to Arnold Schönberglaan will be closed as soon as work on the temporary stop has been completed.

Summer 2025 and spring 2026

The new tram stop will be built in the summer of 2025. There will be fewer people travelling during this period, ensuring only minimal disruption. In the spring of 2026, the stop will also have a turning track added to enable trams from Uithoorn also to turn around here. This will not yet be possible in the summer of 2025 because the space is needed to build The CubeHouse.

Night of 31 May – 1 June: Parnassusweg (exiting the city) closed

In the period ahead, the first works will be done to prepare the situation. In the night of Saturday, 31 May/Sunday, 1 June, Liander will be replacing a gas pipeline. This will cause disruption because the western carriageway of Parnassusweg (exiting the city) will be closed to traffic. From the afternoon and during the evening and night, a replacement bus service will be running because the tram cannot run during works on the gas pipeline for safety reasons. In early July, GVB will be working for several nights on the overhead lines for the tram.

What will be happening when?

From 19 July 2025 (in the summer holiday), the central platform will be built and the necessary modifications made to the tram track. From then on, the central platform will be used as a stop for trams 5 and 25, but the trams will not yet be able to turn here. Tram 25 will then continue its journey to Strawinskylaan. In the first quarter of 2026, the side platform, the turning track, the eastern track for trams passing through and the pedestrian crossing on the north side of the stop will be built. This is expected to happen in the spring holiday when there will be fewer people travelling. When the time comes, full information will be provided via our website about the works and expected disruption.

Permanent stop

The permanent stop for the Amstel tram at Amsterdam Zuid station will ultimately be on the south side of the station. This stop will be on the roof of the southern car tunnel, which will be built in Arnold Schönberglaan starting in 2027. The tram station will then be at a much shorter distance from the railway and metro platforms between the two station passageways.
