During this four-day road closure, the TriAX construction consortium (Besix, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans) will be moving the road connecting to the A10 West by 6 m, in order to rebuild it a metre lower. This is being done to make room for the new fly-over to the A4 Schiphol/Rotterdam that we will be building over it. In the meantime, some distance away next to the A10 West, we are doing preparatory work for a new carriageway by installing sheet piling into the ground.

A10 Zuid in the future: main and parallel carriageway

These works are related to the planned widening of the A10 Zuid. It is set to be divided into a main carriageway with four lanes and a new parallel carriageway with two lanes in each direction. The parallel lane is intended for local traffic from the S109 Amsterdam-Buitenveldert and the S108 Amsterdam-Oud Zuid.

Current situation

The parallel carriageway will consist of two brand-new lanes on top of the huge piled embankment that we are building next to the A10 Zuid. The lanes will then run across the northern Schinkelbrug bridge (yet to be built) to the De Nieuwe Meer junction, where a third lane will be added. Two of these will then connect to the A4 via the above-mentioned flyover and, in the future, the additional third lane will take traffic to the A10 West.

New carriageway to A10 West

The carriageway (with hard shoulder) leading to the A10 West will be where the deceleration lane to the S107 Henk Sneevlietweg currently is. The deceleration lane will remain, but needs to move slightly towards the embankment next to the A10. We will therefore also be building a new section of motorway here. In preparation for that, we will be installing a lot of sheet piling into the ground in the period up to October in the verge alongside Joy Jaagpad tennis club and the Zuidcirkel business complex. And also some distance away, next to the deceleration lane to the S107, close to Anthony Fokkerweg.

In the video below, you can see how, in the future, the A10 parallel carriageway will take you to the A10 West.

Closures around Ascension and Whit weekends

As far as possible, we will be inserting the sheet piling from Anthony Fokkerweg, minimising the need to close the A10 West. However, because we are leaving several protected trees in place there, we will also need to work from the A10 West at times. We are doing this during Ascension weekend, when we will close the connecting road to the A10 West: from 22.00 on Wednesday, 28 May until 05.00 on Monday, 2 June. And around Whit weekend (from Friday, 6 June until Tuesday, 10 June), we will again be closing the road connecting to the A10 West.

Widening of A10 Zuid
The parallel carriageway and the flyover are part of the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction, that is needed in order to widen the A10 Zuid by adding two additional lanes for local traffic. This animation (in Dutch) shows what changes road users can expect.

Zuidasdok: plenty of work in 2025

In 2025, we are working at pace on the widening of the A10 Zuid and the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station. Click here for the details of all current disruption. And click here for a total overview of the major disruption we expect in 2025 (pdf, in Dutch).
