The summer of 2026 has been exceptionally hot, including for the construction crews from the TriAX consortium (Besix, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans). Despite the heat, they spent five weeks working day in, day out on widening the A10 Zuid viaduct above Amstelveenseweg. The viaduct needs to be widened to accommodate the new lanes on the A10 Zuid. Throughout the works, the road beneath the viaduct was closed to motorised traffic in both directions.
52 girders, each 37 metres long
Over the course of five weeks, we lifted 52 girders (concrete beams), each around 37 metres long, into position on both the northern and southern sides of the viaduct. Together, they form the deck above the viaduct supports (which we built during the summer closure in 2025). We installed reinforcement on top of the girders and then poured the concrete. The future widening of the A10 Zuid above Amstelveenseweg is now clearly taking shape.
Redesigning the junction
In 2027, we will start work on the junction beneath the viaduct. It will be redesigned to create a clearer layout, separating traffic travelling between Amsterdam and Amstelveen from traffic heading for the A10 Zuid. This will make the junction easier for drivers to navigate. The new S108 access road will connect directly to the new layout, helping traffic to flow more smoothly. The redesigned junction is scheduled to be completed in 2028.
Widening the A10 Zuid
The A10 Zuid between the Amstel and De Nieuwe Meer junctions will be widened from four to six lanes in each direction: four for through traffic and two for local traffic. This will improve both safety and traffic flow. To make this possible, we are constructing or modifying 14 viaducts in and around De Nieuwe Meer junction, including the viaduct above Amstelveenseweg.
