The work sites will not be used to build the tunnel itself, but for activities such as storing materials and setting up construction huts. We will be preparing several locations over the next period.

The map below shows where we will be working. Click to enlarge.

From 19 October: between Amstelveenseweg and Parnassusweg

A work site will be set up near Amstelveenseweg, on the south side of the A10 Zuid. It will be located between the access road to the A10 Zuid and VUmc, providing access to a construction site extending along the southern motorway embankment as far as Parnassusweg. A construction hut will be placed between the Deloitte office and The Pulse of Amsterdam building. This is also where construction of the A10 tunnel will begin. From 2027, we will excavate our way towards the central Zuidas area. As we do so, the tunnel itself will also serve as a construction access route. You can read more about this in our earlier article on the logistics behind the tunnel construction.

In mid-October, we will begin preparatory work, including relocating cables and pipes. During the week beginning Monday, 19 October, we will remove trees and shrubs. This will require the overnight closure of one motorway lane. Filling in the waterway alongside the motorway embankment is scheduled for April 2027.

From 23 October: near the new courthouse

There is already a work site between the courthouse and the A10 Zuid embankment, with a construction hut and parking spaces. We have also previously tested construction methods for building the tunnel walls behind the courthouse. Some trees were removed for this purpose last Christmas. From Friday, 23 October, we will start moving the fencing around the site. From Monday, 26 October, and again in early 2027, we will continue removing trees from the verge between R.K. Begraafplaats Buitenveldert cemetery and the motorway. This time, the work is needed to make room for a construction access road.

Outside the bird nesting season
We will remove trees outside the bird nesting season, which generally runs from mid-March to mid-July. The trees need to be removed before the next nesting season begins because the locations mentioned in this article are essential for the construction and logistics of the southern tunnel. We need to be able to start this work on schedule next year. Zuidasdok has a permit for the tree removal.

From 29 October: Oude Haagseweg

This is where the main site office for the A10 tunnel construction will be located, on a plot of land between a work site run by TriAX (the consortium responsible for reconstructing the De Nieuwe Meer junction) and the cycle path on Oeverlandenweg. The site office will be 125 metres long and 12 metres wide, with 230 workstations spread over two floors. From Thursday, 29 October, we will start removing trees in this area. We will also carry out other preparatory work, including relocating cables and pipes, installing fencing and security cameras, and putting in drainage for the site office. During this period, the last remaining trees will also be removed from the TriAX work site on Jaagpad near Schinkelbrug. In early November, we will remove trees and other vegetation from the work site around the main TriAX site office on Johan Huizingalaan.

From 9 November: from Europaboulevard to Beethovenstraat

An important construction access road will be built along the cycle path known as Groene Zoom, which runs from Europaboulevard past RAI towards Beatrixpark. Although this construction access road will be located on the north side of the A10 Zuid, it will also be essential for building the southern tunnel. It will extend as far as Beethovenstraat, where it will pass beneath the viaduct and connect to the construction access road and work site alongside the AFC sports pitches and on the north side of Vivaldistraat. This will allow heavy construction vehicles to use purpose-built access roads, reducing the impact on roads in the city.

From Monday, 9 November, we will remove trees at several locations, including Christiaan Neefestraat next to the Akzo office. In places where trees are located within 1.5 metres of the motorway, we will also work at night. This will require the closure of one motorway lane.

Around 14,400 trees need to be removed to make way for the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station and the widening and partial tunnelling of the A10 Zuid. This work began in 2018. There is not enough space to replace all the trees in their original locations. Zuidasdok will compensate for the trees removed by relocating a limited number, planting new trees and contributing to the tree replanting fund (Herplantfonds).
