Relocation of the Schinkelbrug control towers due to road widening

The number of bridges over the Schinkel will increase over the next few years, due to the widening of the southern carriageway of the A10 motorway. To make space for this, two control towers will need to be removed and the controls moved elsewhere. EQUANS will move these controls to a temporary location next to the control building for the De Nieuwe Meer lock on Jaagpad. The lock is operated from the De Nieuwe Meersluis control building, and the bridge will be operated from the adjacent portacabin.

Foundations, pipes and cabling

Before installing the new building, we will first build a foundation. We will move the current bicycle shed and remove shrubbery. The trees will be left in place. We will also install cabling and pipes from the Schinkelbrug to the control building for the De Nieuwe Meer lock, running under the pavement along Jaagpad. We expect to be able to start this work at the end of October and it will take about three weeks. During the work, cyclists and pedestrians can continue to use Jaagpad. The cycle path at the T-junction between Jaagpad and IJsbaanpad will be closed during the night of 24 to 25 October, and pedestrians will also be diverted. The waterway will be closed for one hour while the new portacabin is installed.

November and December

Between mid-November and the end of December, we will be working on the rail bridges, the metro bridge and the motorway carriageways. During this period, we will sometimes need to work in the evening and at night. We will update you on this at a later date.

Zuidasdok

The reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer interchange, just like the modernization of the station, is part of the Zuidasdok project. A new motorway fly-over will be built, and the A10 southbound will be widened from four lanes to six lanes in each direction. We are working on a safer and better flow of traffic on the A10 southbound. To make this possible, major changes are required to the De Nieuwe Meer interchange – and later to the Amstel interchange too.
