Minor subsidence closes one metro track

Update

Repair works are underway. GVB is expected to resume normal services on 16 February 2023.

Repair works on the metro track at Amsterdam Zuid station

The metro track concerned is where lines 50 and 51 usually run, in the direction of Gein and Amsterdam Centraal. This metro track will be out of service at least until Wednesday, 15 February. Metro 51 will not be running.

Further investigation

The subsidence was revealed by the monitoring system. It is at the location where we are building the Brittenpassage, the second passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station. Underneath the metro track concerned, there is a section of what will ultimately form the roof of the Brittenpassage. It was inserted into position in 2021. The experts from Zuidasdok and the Nieuw-Zuid construction consortium are unable to identify the exact cause. In order to conduct further investigations, we will be working in the night of 14-15 February to remove sections of track, sleepers and ballast at the site of the subsidence. We do not expect this to cause any local noise nuisance. Only after this investigation will it be possible to provide an indication of how long repair work will take.

We will issue an update when further information is available.
