Parnassusweg closed for two weekends in city direction

Just to the south of Amsterdam Zuid station, there is one more construction plot: on the corner of Parnassusweg and Claude Debussylaan. On the plot where, until recently, the paddle tennis courts were, there are plans to build the energy-neutral office building CubeHouse in the next few years. Until then, the plot will need to be prepared for construction. That will involve working day and night for two full weekends and a diversion for road traffic, cyclists and pedestrians heading into the city.

Whit weekend: 26 to 30 May

During this weekend, we will be removing any paving, tram track, cables and pipelines from the plot. We are also moving the pavement, cycle path and traffic lane to provide space for the developer to build. To enable that to happen, cars and buses will be diverted via De Boelelaan, Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan back to Parnassusweg. Trams can continue on their normal route and the entrance to the railway platforms in Parnassusweg will remain accessible. The traffic diversion starts in the night of Thursday/Friday (at 01.00 on 26 May), after that night’s last buses. This diversion will end at 05.00 on Tuesday, 30 May.

Weekend of 3 to 5 June

During this weekend, we are working on the permanent paving for the relocated pavement, cycle path and traffic lane. Cars and buses will again be diverted via De Boelelaan, Beethovenstraat and Strawinskylaan back to Parnassusweg. Trams will continue on their normal route and the entrance to the railway platforms in Parnassusweg will remain open. The traffic diversion starts on the night of Friday/Saturday (at 01.00 on 3 June) and ends at 05.00 on Monday, 5 June.

Diversion for cyclists and pedestrians

During the works, slow traffic can continue to use Parnassusweg in both directions. However, between 19.00 on Thursday, 25 May and Sunday, 3 September, traffic controllers will be on hand close to the works to guide slow traffic to the other side (west side) of Parnassusweg.

Two-month diversion for traffic heading out of city

In this busy part of the city, there are further road closures ahead. In addition to preparing the plot on Claude Debussylaan for construction, Zuidasdok is also widening the metro viaduct across Parnassusweg. Pipelines are also being removed from the road to enable construction of the future A10 tunnel. This will result in further diversions, but for a longer period. Because the pipelines we are removing are right in front of the entrance to the railway platforms, we will be forced to close the Parnassusweg station entrance from 12 June until the first week of September.

If you are heading south (out of the city) in Parnassusweg by car or bus between 24 July and 1 October, there will be a diversion via Strawinskylaan, Beethovenstraat and De Boelelaan and back to Parnassusweg. This is to create space for construction and slow traffic. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to continue to use Parnassusweg in both directions.
