Meeting about temporary courthouse plots

We previously reported about our plan to use the location of the temporary courthouse to build an office and housing complex. The conditions for this are outlined in a policy document (Nota van Uitgangspunten) that was approved by the City Council in September 2021. In order to make it possible for the plots in Fred. Roeskestraat in the Parnas neighbourhood to be developed as intended, the existing zoning plan needs to be changed. The RVB is currently compiling a new zoning plan incorporating each of the basic principles outlined in the policy document. Ultimately, the City Council will make a decision about this zoning plan. On 6 June, we will explain the process this change involves together with the basic principles that will be included. You are warmly invited to attend.

Plots become available

In the spring of 2022, the temporary courthouse was dismantled, and the circular building was subsequently rebuilt at Kennispark Twente, a high-tech park in Enschede. Since the opening of the new courthouse, the plots on which both the temporary courthouse and the old courthouse (part of which has protected monument status) were located were no longer needed for central government purposes. These plots were owned by the RVB. The old courthouse plot was transferred to the City of Amsterdam. The old courthouse, in Parnassusweg, will have a museum of modern art in it.
